Mazharul Haque BSNB Eye Hospital, Chandpur is a 51 bed Advance Secondary Specialized Eye Hospital which was established on 0.025 acres of land in 1982 and registered under NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh, Dept. Of Social Welfare and Directorate General of Health Services as a Non Government Organization. The hospital is managed by 15 member’s executive committee which is elected in every 03 years. Currently 110 staffs working in the hospital including 14 Ophthalmologists and Medical Doctors, 36 Ophthalmic Paramedics in different Subspecialty of eye care like Cataract, Glaucoma, Pediatric, Oculoplasty. Since inception it serves 11,02,288 nos patients in OPD, perform 88,507 successful surgeries in IPD, 58466 Children treated in Pediatric unit, perform 599 pediatric surgeries in hospital, organized 1011 Free Screening Eye Camp and treated 10,40,122 patients and Perform free cataract surgeries for 97,538 patients. It also organizes 1048 nos. School sight testing program and screened 4,81,979 nos. students and distributed 13402 pairs free Spectacle along with 99,928 nos. students received free medicine and yearly 39500 patients treated by 06 Primary Eye Care Center (Vision Center) with support of donor agency like Orbis International, ANDHERI HILFE, The Fred Hollows Foundation and Dutch Bangla Bank Foundation. The Vision of the organization is “Envisioning a society where eradication of blindness is a reality and new blindness is prevented” and its mission is “To make people aware about eye care and provide specialized treatment for eye patient so that they enjoy a healthy eye”. The core goal is “Increase the quality of life of 80% of beneficiaries through reduction of blindness”. The values of the organization are Dedication, Quality, Compassion, Innovation, patient Centric, Team work and finally respect for all. The Pediatric Department of the hospital was started for specialized pediatric eye care with support of Orbis International under NCBP Project in 2017. Under this project, we completed the renovation works for pediatric unit, purchased medical equipment’s, organized 130 nos. SSTP and completed pediatric team training along with setting up a new Vision Center at Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur and trained 315 nos. frontline community health workers along with raising awareness by observing different days like World Sight Day, International Women’s Day, World Diabetes Day.
